Chris Murphy, the junior US Senator for Connecticut, has dedicated his career to public service as an advocate for Connecticut families. Senator Murphy has been a strong voice in the Senate fighting for job creation, affordable health care, education, sensible gun laws, and a forward-looking foreign policy.

Following the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, Senator Murphy became one of the leading proponents of commonsense reforms to reduce gun violence. He has championed a number of bipartisan bills aimed at expanding background checks and keeping guns out of the hands of criminals.

Since the tragic loss of his son Daniel, one of 20 first-graders murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School along with six educators, Mark Barden has dedicated himself to bringing people together to find sensible solutions that will prevent future tragedies and spare other families the pain of losing a child to gun violence. As managing director of Sandy Hook Promise, Barden leads and manages the organization, along with Nicole Hockley, mother of Dylan, who was also killed at Sandy Hook. Barden focuses on policy and outreach efforts for SHP and frequently serves as a spokesperson for the organization.
