2017 FoST Prize submissions are open!
BY Megan Worman — June 27, 2017

The Future of StoryTelling is now accepting submissions for the 2017 FoST Prize. Launched in 2014, the FoST Prize is a global competition designed to recognize the most exceptional storytelling projects of the year.

FoST is looking for projects that may include, but are not limited to, virtual, mixed, and augmented reality pieces; web-based, audio, and data-driven works; mobile apps; narrative games; multimedia installations; and multiplatform projects.

By submitting to the FoST Prize, applicants are automatically in the running for both the People’s Choice Award and the Jury Award. For the People’s Choice Award, the FoST curatorial team will choose the 20 of the best submitted projects, which will be released to the public for voting on the FoST website. People can also view them in person at the FoST Festival, which will take place October 6th–9th in New York. The project that receives the most votes will be announced on the last day of the Festival and receive a $5,000 cash prize.

Out of the 20 projects selected for the People’s Choice Award, three finalists will also be chosen by an esteemed panel of judges for the Jury Award. This year’s judges include Resh Sidhu, creative director at Framestore; Julia Kaganskiy, director of NEW INC at the New Museum; and Steve Clayton, chief storyteller at Microsoft, along with FoST founder and director Charles Melcher. The three Jury Award finalists will be invited to attend the FoST Summit (October 4th and 5th in New York), where the winner will be announced from the main stage and receive a $5,000 cash prize.

Last year’s Jury Award winner was Home, a VR spacewalk inspired by NASA’s training program, created by Rewind with the BBC. The People’s Choice Award went to Across the Line, a VR experience about accessing abortion in America created by Planned Parenthood and Emblematic Group.
